Florida Gators Enter 2022 Recruiting Game With Verbal From In-State Sprint Star Dawson Joyce
NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has splashed into their Class of 2026 recruiting after receiving an in-state verbal commitment from sprint superstar Dawson Joyce of Sanford, Fla.
He will arrive in Gainesville at the start of the 2022-23 season.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’d like to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Florida. I would like to thank Coach Tony Ackerson, teammates, family, and friends who have helped me through this journey. #GoGators ?”
A talented sprinter across multiple strokes, Joyce trains year-round with Florida State University Club and owns several Junior National standards. He was the 50 fly runner-up and secured bronze medals in the 50 free and 50 back at the Florida Spring Championships in 2019. Last summer, he won three events at Florida LCM Seniors after taking sixth in both the 50m free and 50m back at Gainesville Sectionals.
Joyce also made headlines at the Patriot Aquatics Spring LCM Meet in May 2018.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.17
- 100 free – 44.70
- 50 back – 23.43
- 100 back – 51.63
- 50 fly – 22.71
- 100 fly – 51.40
A current junior at Seminole High School in Sanford, Joyce won both the 50 free and 100 free during his freshman and sophomore seasons at the Florida 4A State Championships. He is also a four-time State relay champion, earning gold in the 4×50 free and 4×50 medley relays in 2018 and 2019.
