Florida Cleans up SEC Weekly Honors via Aleksas Savickas, Josh Liendo
Florida’s Aleksas Savickas and Josh Liendo earned the men’s honors for the most recent SEC Weekly Honors, released on Tuesday.
On the women’s side, Kentucky’s Gillian Davey was the swimmer of the week with Betsy Wizard of Arkansas as the freshman of the week. All four were recognized for their performances beyond college competition during the week.
Savickas, a freshman from Lithuania, won both breaststroke events at the Toyota U.S. Open. He won the 100 breast in 1:00.54 and the 200 in 2:09.58, the latter edging Olympian Chase Kalisz.
Liendo picked up three silver medals at the U.S. Open. The Canadian freshman was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle in 21.99 seconds, the 100 free in 48.97 and the 100 butterfly in 52.48.
Davey made it two U.S. Open titles in the 200 breast for the SEC at the U.S. Open. The Kentucky senior won the women’s event in 2:27.06, a U.S. Olympic Trials cut. She was also the top qualifier in the event from prelims.
Wizard shined overseas in her native England at their national championships. She finished second in the 100 fly, clocking a personal-best 58.62. She also claimed third place in the 200 fly in 2:10.49 and sixth in the 200 free in 1:59.81.
