Florida Atlantic Sweeps Syracuse
SYRACUSE, NY., Nov. 4. FLORIDA Atlantic University used nine first place finishes by the women and eight by the men to take two victories at Syracuse yesterday. The men took a 56 point win with a 138-82 finish, while the women came away with a 136-98 victory.
FAU's Dariusz Szymanski dominated the pool as he came away with three first place finishes: the 1,000 yard freestyle (9:53.06), 200 yard butterfly (1:52.40) and 500 yard freestyle (4:42.31).
The Lady Owls showed that they have many talented swimmers as five different individuals placed first in their respective events: Andrea VanDerPlaats (1000 yard free), Emma Petersson (200 yard free), Valeria Dalmastro (50 yard free), Maria Mulyayeva (200 yard IM) and Jacqueline Beitel (100 yard free).
Mulyayeva set a pool record in the 200 IM with her time of 2:05.65, breaking the old record of 2:05.95 set in 1997.
Matt Streicher and Asheley Boland both finished on top of the leader board in diving. Streicher finished in the one-meter with a score of 280.27 points and secon in the 3-meter with 259.42 points. Boland won the 3-meter with 271.95 and was second on the one-meter with a score of 253.35 points.
The two teams next travel to the Georgia Invitational on November 30 for the three-day event.
