Florida 3A State Champion Jack VanDeusen Will Stay In State, Verbals to Gators for 2020
NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has received an in-state verbal pledge for the fall of 2020 from Saint Augustine, Fla. native and current high school junior Jack VanDeusen.
A talented freestyler and IMer, VanDeusen does his club swimming with Bolles School Sharks and owns three U.S. Open standards with four additional Winter Juniors cuts. He earned a trio of best times at the Florida Spring Championships in February after placing eighth in the mile at Juniors East in December. This past summer, he achieved 100% lifetime bests at Cary Futures where he won the 400m IM and grabbed silver in both the 200m free and 400m free.
Also competing for Bartram Trail High School, VanDeusen is a six-time Florida 3A State Championship finalist and has also earned NISCA All-American honors. He won the 200 IM and was the 500 free runner-up as a junior after finishing second in both of those events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m honored to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Florida. I would like to thank God, all my family, friends and coaches who have given me the strength and support in this process. I’m excited for what’s in store. Go Gators!”
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:38.75
- 500 free – 4:23.44
- 1650 free – 15:20.58
- 200 IM – 1:49.40
- 400 IM – 3:58.07
When he arrives in Gainesville as a member of the class of 2024, VanDeusen will add valuable depth to their distance free and IM training group. His best mile time would’ve scored in the top-22 at the 2019 SEC Championships where Florida won their seventh-straight conference title.
