Florida 1A Swimming & Diving Championships Moved to Sunday Because of Tropical Storm Eta

The Florida High School Athletic Association announced it is moving three state championships from Friday to Sunday, including the 1A state swimming and diving championships, in order to ensure safe travel for teams while Tropical Storm Eta affects the gulf coast. Cross country and volleyball state championships have also been moved to Sunday.

1A teams were set to travel to Stuart, where the swim meet will be held, on Thursday the 12th but the storm is making travel difficult, thus allowing the FHSAA to move back the 1A state meet to Sunday, while the 2A meet will remain on Saturday.

Tropical Storm Eta hit southeast Florida last weekend and has hit the state a second time, affecting the central part of the state

The 1A swimming and diving championships will feature the Bolles School, who have won every boys state meet they have competed in since 1988, while the girls have won in every meet they have competed in since 1991. The meet will also feature Kings Academy junior Josh Zuchowski, who has set a number of national age group records in his career, as well as Erika Pelaez, last year’s 1A state champ in the 50 and 100 free as an eighth grader. Zuchowski has won the last two 1A state titles in the 100 back and was last year’s champ in the 200 IM.
