NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has received an in-state verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from distance freestyler Caleb Kravitz of Saint Petersburg, Fla.

Kravitz does his club swimming with Saint Petersburg Aquatics and owns four Summer Juniors standards. He recently capped off a successful long course season as the runner-up in both the 800m free and 1500m free at TYR Summer Seniors after recording three best times at Gainesville Speedo Sectionals. He registered six top-8 finishes at the Florida Spring Championships before going on to earn silver medals in the 400m/800m/1500m freestyles at TYR Junior Nationals in March.

Also competing for Shorecrest Preparatory School, Kravitz is a three-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. He won the 500 free and took eighth in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing seventh in the latter during his sophomore season. He also won a national video award last year through Discovery Education.

He told Swimming World:

“I chose the University of Florida because of the great team environment, coaching staff, and academics. It’s great to be a Florida Gator!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:41.59
  • 500 free – 4:28.89
  • 1000 free – 9:16.00
  • 1650 free – 15:26.85
  • 200 back – 1:51.06

Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the SEC Championships, he has made significant improvements over the past few seasons with a year of club swimming still to go before arriving in Gainesville. He will add his talents to a loaded Gators’ freestyle training group which will include Trey Freeman and Robert Finke who helped Florida secure their seventh-straight conference title this past season.
