by Phillip Whitten
June 24. SwimInfo has just learned that the University of Northern Iowa's women's swimming and diving team has been reinstated.
Both the UNI women's and men's teams were cut two months ago, ostensibly for budgetary reasons. In a conversation at that time with the University's AD, this writer predicted that the school would be forced to reinstate the women's team due to Title IX, but he demurred, saying the University was "certain" it was on solid ground in axing both teams.
Tim Teeter, the women's team's attorney, will issue a press release containing details later today, and SwimInfo will run the release immediately.
At this time, there is no indication the men's team will be reinstated.
