FLASH!! Michael Phelps, Erik Vendt Both Break the World Record in the 400 IM

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, Aug. 15. BOTH Michael Phelps and Erik Vendt broke Tom Dolan's world record in the 400 meter Individual Medley. Phelps, the world record-holder in the 200 meter butterfly, clocked 4:11.09. Vendt was a touch behind in 4:11.27.
Dolan had held the record for one month shy of eight years. He first set ita at 4:12.30 at the World Championships in Rome in 1994. He lowered it to 4:11.76 in winning gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
