FINA World Championships, Swimming: Flash! Gemma Spofforth Chases Down Anastasia Zueva For World Record in 100 Back

ROME, Italy, July 28. GREAT Britain's Gemma Spofforth chased down Russia's Anastasia Zueva during the final 15 metes to touch out Zueva for the world record in the women's 100 back at the FINA World Championships.
Spofforth raced to a 58.12 for the world record, while Zueva also cleared her previous global standard of 58.48 with a silver-winning time of 58.18.
Australia's Emily Seebohm completed the podium with a third-place 58.88 to join the 58 club. That performance cleared her Australian record of 59.15.
Japan's Shiho Sakai (59.14), China's Zhao Jing (59.28), United States' Hayley McGregory (59.42), Great Britain's Elizabeth Simmonds (59.71) and Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry (59.74) made up the rest of the race, all breaking a minute.
