FINA Posts First 2016 Rio Olympic Qualifiers
Editorial Coverage Sponsored By FINIS
The 2016 Rio Olympic qualifying period for swimming started on March 1 at approved meets, and FINA has posted its first list of those swimmers who have achieved a FINA A or B cut so far.
These swimmers aren’t locks to go to the 2016 Rio Olympics, as each national federation has a lot to say about which qualified swimmers swim which events. But, it’s a first look that should see a huge increase in numbers this next week with Canadian and Australian Nationals.
The women’s 50-meter free already looks loaded with seven early FINA A cut qualifiers, including Sarah Sjostrom at the top of the list with a 24.74. Sjostrom also leads another deep field so far in the 100-meter fly with a 56.58 as eight swimmers have cleared the FINA A cut.
No men’s event is super deep as of this first posting.
