FINA Maintains Provisional Suspension of Yuliya Efimova
Confirming what Swimming World already reported earlier today, Russian swimmer Yuliya Efimova will not be swimming in any event until a final decision is made by the FINA Doping Panel.
FINA announced that it would maintain its provisional suspension of Efimova for her positive doping test for meldonium, even though WADA has announced that it may consider some leniency in these types of cases.
Earlier today, Swimming World reported that Russian Swimming would not allow Efimova to swim at its Olympic Trials regardless of any potential suspension being lifted until a final decision was made by the FINA Doping Panel.
FINA Press Release:
Considering the provisional suspension imposed by FINA to swimmer Yulia Efimova (RUS) and the recent WADA recommendations on the use of Meldonium, the FINA Doping Panel decided to maintain the provisional suspension of this athlete, until a hearing of Ms Efimova is held by the FINA Doping Panel.
FINA will not make any further comments on this case, until a final decision is made by the FINA Doping Panel.
