FINA Announces Pair of Doping Violations

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 17. ON Monday, FINA formally announced the suspensions of two athletes for doping violations. Poland's Paula Zukowska and Brazil's Hugo Parisi will both be out of competition for a period of time following these decisions.

Zukowska tested positive for Methylhexaneamine, a stimulant often sold as a nasal decongestant or a dietary supplement, at Poland's National Grand Prix in late October of 2012. The Polish Swimming Federation suspended Zukowska for six months, but FINA appealed that sentence and increased it to one year, effective November 20, 2012. Zukowska will thus be ineligible to compete until very late in the year.

Meanwhile, Parisi recorded a faulty drug test that showed traces of prednisone and prednisolone, drugs often used to battle anti-immune disorders, at a FINA Diving Grand Prix in Rostock, Germany. Effective June 14, Parisi will be out of competition for three months, and all of his results from competition since February 24 have been nullified.
