FGCU’s Kira Toussaint Transferring to Tennessee in Fall
Kira Toussaint, one of the top swimmers in Florida Gulf Coast University history, has elected to transfer to the University of Tennessee to become a Lady Volunteer this coming Fall.
Toussaint, a Dutch national teamer from Amstelveen, The Netherlands, has had a strong two years at FGCU.
As a freshman in 2013-14, Toussaint was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Swimmer of the Year after finishing seventh in the 100-yard back at the NCAA Championships as well as 12th in the 200-yard back. In fact, she was the first swimmer from the CCSA to ever appear in an NCAA A final.
As a sophomore this past season, Toussaint had a bit tougher of a time with a much deeper backstroke field as she took eighth in the 100-yard back and wound up finishing 32nd place in the 200-yard back.
Toussaint will definitely provide Tennessee some backstroke boost. The Lady Volunteers did not score any points in the backstroke events last season. In fact, scoring any points at all in the backstroke, along with a bit of a bump in the medley relays, would have moved Tennessee up from 11th into the top 9 past Florida’s ninth-place 129 points.
