FGCU Eagles Add Verbal From Freestyler Michaela Sizemore
NEW COMMIT: Florida Gulf Coast University has received their third verbal commitment for the fall of 2019, this time from Fredericksburg, Va. native Michaela Sizemore. She will join Hailey Jerew and Hannah VanDress as a member of the class of 2023.
Sizemore does her club swimming with Rappahannock RAYS Swim Team and capped off her summer season by racing two events at Richmond Futures after recording a pair of best times at Virginia LCM Seniors. She was a five-time finalist at Virginia SCY Seniors in March where her highest finish was a fifth-place showing in the 1000 free.
Also representing Stafford Senior High School, Sizemore is a four-time Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. She placed eighth in the 500 free as a junior, ninth as a sophomore and earned the bronze in the event during her rookie season. Sizemore has also earned a Fredericksburg Free Lance Star All-Area honorable mention for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“Beyond excited to be able to swim and study at Florida Gulf Coast University! I’d like to send a ginormous thank you to my RAYS family and all of my friends! Wings up!!”
Her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:55.84
- 500 free – 5:03.38
- 1000 free – 10:20.83
- 1650 free – 17:13.39
- 200 fly – 2:08.66
When she arrives in Fort Myers for the 2019-20 season, she will add valuable depth to a freestyle group that includes Liz Zeiger and Cassidy Fry. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 500 free and 200 fly as well as placing in the top eight of the mile at the 2018 CCSA Championships where FGCU won their fourth-consecutive conference title.
