European Junior Championships: Xavier Mohammed Downs Meet Record
BELGRADE, Serbia, August 1. GREAT Britain's Xavier Mohammed took down the boys 17-18 200 IM meet record at the European Junior Championships held in Belgrade.
Mohammed clocked a time of 2:00.73, beating the 2:01.34 set by Austria's Dinko Jukic last year. Germany's Jan David Schepers took second in 2:03.22, while Great Britain's Roberto Pavoni finished third in 2:04.03.
Italy's Federico Bussolin won the boys 17-18 200 fly in 1:59.29, while Pavoni touched out Czech Republic's Jan Sefl, 1:59.94 to 1:59.96, for second.
Oleg Tikhobaev of Russia, meanwhile, won the boys 17-18 100 free in 50.03. Poland's Marcin Tarczynski touched second in 50.11, while Italy's Marco Orsi placed third in 50.16.
Russia went 1-2 in the girls 15-16 200 breast. Ekaterina Baklakova won in 2:28.42, while teammate Vitalina Simonova placed second in 2:29.63. Poland's Paulina Zachoszcz took third in 2:31.22.
Hungary's Evan Dobar then clocked a 29.42 to win the girls 15-16 50 back. Poland's Klaudia Nazieblo finished second in 29.62, just beating Ukraine's Kseniya Grygorenko's third-place 29.63.
Nicolo Ossola of Italy then touched out Serbia's Caba Siladji, 28.26 to 28.28, to win the boys 17-18 50 breast. Germany's Marco Koch rounded out the top three in 28.32.
Great Britain's Robert Bale, Thomas Parris, Ryan Bennett and Christopher Walker-Hebborn completed the day with a time of 7:19.98 to win the boys 17-18 800 freestyle relay.
