Erik Posegay Leaves Wisconsin to Become National Junior Team Director at USA Swimming

Wisconsin Associate Head Coach Erik Posegay has taken a position as the National Junior Team Director at USA Swimming according to a social media post by the university.

The Wisconsin Swimming and Diving Twitter account posted a picture thanking Posegay for his service: “Associate Head Coach Erik Posegay will be leaving Wisconsin to become the National Junior Team Director at USA Swimming. … Thank you Erik for all you’ve done for Wisconsin Swimming and Diving.”

In 2019-20, Erik Posegay and the Wisconsin staff garnered one Big Ten relay championship (800 Free Relay), three individual Big Ten titles, (Beata Nelson – 200 IM, 100 Back, 200 Back), seven broken school records (Women’s 100 Fly, 400 Medley Relay, 800 Free Relay; Men’s 200 IM, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay, Men’s Platform), 12 CSCAA All-Americans, and Beata Nelson was named the Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient, while Eric Geunes received the Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship.

In his first season with the Badgers, Erik Posegay helped the Badgers to bring in one Relay All-American (800 Free Relay – Hosack, Nelson, Doty, Unicomb), one individual Honorable Mention All-American in Cameron Tysoe (200 Back), and six school records (Women’s 200 IM, 100 Back, 200 Back, 800 Free Relay; Men’s 100 Breast, 200 Breast). Additionally, Tysoe qualified for the World University Games and had a fifth-place finish in the 200 Back. Posegay spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Penn State before joining the Badgers staff.

Prior to joining the college coaching ranks at Penn State, Erik Posegay spent five years at the famed North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC). Initially hired as an assistant under Bob Bowman – best known for developing Olympic great Michael Phelps – Posegay was promoted to head coach and CEO of the club in 2015.

In international competition, Erik Posegay has held three coaching positions with USA Swimming, serving as an assistant women’s coach for the 2015 Open Water World Championships, 2013 Duel in the Pool and 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. He also has served as an assistant coach for the French Federation at the 2014 European Championships and as Macedonia’s head coach for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Before he joined the NBAC staff, Erik Posegay spent six years as head coach at Parkland High School and Parkland Aquatic Club in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He guided the Parkland girls’ team to the Class 3A high school state championship in 2006.
