Emily Seebohm Expecting First Child With Fiancée Ryan Gallagher

The premier Australian women’s backstroker for a decade-long stretch is expecting her first child. Emily Seebohm announced on Instagram that she and fiancée Ryan Gallagher are due in September. Both posted messages to their Instagram page. Seebohm wrote, “We’ve had a little bump in the road” with a video post showing her baby bump.

The couple met when both were part of the television show The Challenge Australia, and they announced their relationship in December 2022. They revealed they were engaged in March, and they plan to marry next year.

Seebohm, 31, is a four-time Olympian for Australia and eight-time Olympic medalist. She was just 16 when she led off Australia’s gold-medal-winning, world-record-setting 400 medley relay at the 2008 Olympics, and she also won gold medals as a prelims swimmer on the 400 freestyle relay in 2012 and 400 medley relay in 2021. Individually, Seebohm won and Olympic silver medal in the 100 backstroke in 2012 and a bronze in the 200 back in 2021. She was the favorite for 100 back gold at the 2016 Olympics but finished outside the medals in a surprise result.

Seebohm was also a five-time world champion, with individual wins in the 100 back in 2015 and in the 200 back in 2015 and 2017. She last competed at the 2021 Olympics. She did not qualify for the 2019 World Championships but returned to earn spots in her fourth Olympics two years later.
