Eden Prairie Takes Minnesota (AA) High School State Title

Eden Prairie brought brought home the Minnesota (AA) High School State Championship.

The first race of the day was extremely close. Eden Prairie won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.70, one-hundredth of a second over Minnetonka. The winning team consisted of backstroker Austin Pham, breaststroker Griffin Back, butterflier Joshua Withers and freestyler Jordan Greenberg and set a meet record. North finished third in 1:35.38.
Minnetonka’s Sam Schilling took the 200-yard freestyle crown with a time of 1:37.74. Max Lezer of St. Michael Albert was second in 1:39.61 and Chanhassen’s Jack Dahlgren was third in 1:40.00.
Eden Prairie’s Griffin Back just missed the state record in the 200-yard individual medley of 1:47.71. Back touched in 1:47.79. Eastview’s Sam Pekarek touched second in 1:50.24. He was followed by Rochester’s John Becker with a time of 1:50.35.
Greenberg picked up an individual win in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in 20.42. Lakeville North’s Andrew Trepanier was second in 20.81 and Roch Century’s Alex Kofler rounded out the top three in 20.83.
Spring Lake Park’s Mitch Raihle took first in diving. He was followed by Eagan teammates Nick Lemieux and Alex Crow.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Joshua Withers of Eden Prairie won in 48.56. Prior Lake’s Marshall Heskin took second in 50.23. Tartan’s Ryan McPherson rounded out the top three with a time of 50.42.
Back set a state record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.80. Trepanier was second in 44.98 and Greenberg took third in 45.01.
Shilling won his second event of the day in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 4:29.55. Dahlgren was second in 4:32.64 and Lezer finished third with a time of 4:37.25.
Eden Prairie took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Withers, Greenberg, Will Green and Stephen McMahon posted a winning time of 1:24.37. Eagan was second in 1:25.81 and Rochester County was third with a time of 1:25.83.
North’s Mitchell Whyte won the 100-yard backstroke in 49.24. Eagan’s Parker Lemke took second in 49.65 and Becker was third in 50.09.
Corey Lau of Minnetonka took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.90. Pekarek finished in second place in 55.60 and Will Ho of Woodbury was third in 56.70.
Eagan won the 400-yard freestyle relay. Tal Shub, Jasper Appleton, Colin Kehoe and Parker Lemke touched in 3:05.64.
Minnetonka took second in 3:06.76 and Eden Prairie in 3:07.97.
At the meet, 41 teams scored points.
