Duncan Scott Sets 200IM Meet Record At Edinburgh International; Tom Dean Wins 200 Free

Duncan Scott set a meet record of 1:59.35 in the 200IM after finishing second behind Olympic champion Tom Dean in the 200m freestyle on the first day of the Edinburgh International Meet.

Out in 25.88, Scott, the Olympic silver medallist, led from start to finish to take the title in the last event of the first day although 2016 European champion Andreas Vazaios was closing in the final metres to also dip inside 2mins in 1:59.86.

It was Scott’s second final of the day after he qualified swiftest for the 200 free in 1:48.31 in a race that featured the Olympic gold and silver medallists as well as James Guy, who won relay gold in Tokyo.

Scott and Guy were first to the 50 in 25.16 and come the halfway mark, Scott led in 52.10 ahead of Guy (52.36) and Dean (52.53) with the trio stretching away on the third 50.

Scott had a lead of 0.15 over Dean at the final turn but his British teammate powered through to win in 1:47.60.

Scott was second in 1:48.59 ahead of Guy in 1:48.74.

Olympic relay champion Matt Richards came through on the final 50 to win the ‘B’ final in 1:50.64.

Ben Proud set a meet record of 23.46 in the first heat of the 50 fly skins before opting out of the remainder which was won by Jacob Peters.

Olympic mixed medley relay champion Anna Hopkin won the first heat of the women’s 50 free skins in 24.84 but didn’t progress through the second heat with Aimee Canny winning out.

James Wilby held off the fast finish of Greg Butler to win the 200m breaststroke in 2:10.83, kicking again in the final metres as Butler came at him down the last 25 to touch in 2:11.52.

European champion Kathleen Dawson led from start to finish to win the women’s 100 back in 1:01.04 with Louise Hansson coming from third at halfway to take second in 1:01.47.

Freya Anderson came home in 30.55 to overhaul Freya Colbert and take the 400 free in 4:12.30.

Kara Hanlon came through in the last metres to take the 100br in 1:08.34, 0.04 ahead of Sarah Vasey (1:08.38) and Imogen Clark (1:08.93).

Jonathon Adam won the men’s 100 back in 55.15 ahead of Bath teammate Brodie Williams (55.47) and Craig McNally (55.58).

Keanna MacInnes went ahead of Emily Large on the third 50 of the 200 fly, going on to win in 2:11.34 to 2:11.59.

Carlos Garoch Benito won the men’s 1500 free, the Spanish swimmer touching in 15:14.01 ahead of Luke Turley (15:18.91).
