Duncan Scott Awarded OBE In New Year’s Honours List
Duncan Scott has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List following a year in which he became Scotland’s most-decorated Olympic athlete.
The University of Stirling swimmer, who was awarded an MBE in 2021, won two medals in Paris bringing his Olympic medal tally to eight from three consecutive Games at Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 comprising two golds and six silvers.
Having won gold in Tokyo in the 4x200m freestyle, Scott – along with James Guy, Tom Dean and Matt Richards made history in Paris, as Team GB’s first-ever quartet to defend an Olympic title and the first four individuals to combine and defend a relay gold in the pool.
And with a second individual 200m individual medley silver at Paris, Scott overhauled Sir Chris Hoy as Scotland’s most decorated Olympic athlete.
He said: “I’m truly humbled to be recognised in the New Year Honours list. This OBE is not just mine; it’s a reflection of the amazing support and dedication of my team and the swimming community. 2024 was an incredible year, and I couldn’t be prouder to start 2025 with this honour.”
Fellow Scot Stephen Clegg has been awarded an MBE for services to swimming. Clegg became a five-time Paralympic medallist winning two gold medals at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris in the S12 100m backstroke and the S12 100m butterfly. His time of 59.02 for the backstroke was a world record for the event.
Also recognised are Tully Kearney, Alice Tai, Poppy Maskill and William Ellard.
Volunteers are also recognised in the list, including Karen Kelly, Head Coach of Lanark ASC, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal.
