Olympic Medalist Duncan Scott Fighting COVID Ahead of World Championships
Great Britain’s Duncan Scott will have a tougher road to the 2022 World Championships than expected.
Scott announced on social media that he has COVID-19 with three weeks to go before the international meet.
“I’m riddled…..and I’ve got covid (it’s a classic ?) 3 weeks out from worlds isn’t ideal but we’ll make it work ??,” Duncan Scott wrote on Instagram.
Scott is one of 23 Great Britain swimmers who qualified for the meet. He represented Great Britain in the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Olympic Games and became the first British swimmer to claim four Olympic medals in one Games, earning one gold and three silver. That brought his overall Olympic medal count to six.
In his international career, Scott has 24 gold medals, 20 silver and 11 bronze, including World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
In Tokyo, Scott won gold as a part of the 800 freestyle relay, while claiming silver in the 200 freestyle, the 200 IM and the 400 medley relay.
In 2019 he earned his first World Championship medal in an individual event, earning the bronze in the 200 freestyle, but it was his relay performance that became the swim of the meet.
Swimming the final leg of the 400 medley relay for Great Britain, he produced the second-fastest relay split of all-time, and fastest in a textile suit, to earn gold by passing American great Nathan Adrian during the anchor split.
After those strong performances in his past few international meets, Duncan Scott was looking for another big performance at the World Championships this year. Only time will tell what lasting affects COVID-19 has for him in the water.
Deano had it twice in the run up to the Olympics! Our boys are made of strong stuff.
….Or just lucky enough to have had it mildly?!!
