Duke Blue Devils Secure Verbal from Junior National Finalist Sarah Foley of Penn Charter
NEW COMMIT: Philadelphia, Penn. native and rising senior Sarah Foley has verbally committed to Duke University and will arrive in Durham at the start of the 2020-21 season.
Foley, who does her club swimming with Penn Charter Aquatic Club, is a talented breaststroker and IMer who owns four Summer Juniors standards. She earned five new best times and won both breaststroke events at Middle Atlantic Seniors in March after earning bronze in the 200 breast at the Tom Dolan Invite in December. Last summer, she placed 10th in the 200m breast and 18th in the 100m breast at Junior Nationals.
Also competing for William Penn Charter School, Foley is a four-time Eastern Interscholastic Championship finalist. The NISCA All-American won the 100 breast and took third in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing first and second, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to announce my commitment to swim at Duke University. Thank you to my friends, family, teammates and my coach for supporting me and getting me to this point. Go Blue Devils!”
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:01.48
- 200 breast – 2:12.22
- 200 IM – 2:02.08
- 400 IM – 4:19.18
Even with over a year to go before suiting up for the Blue Devils, Foley will add valuable breaststroke depth to their lineup and would’ve ranked at the top of their roster last season. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 breast and the C-final of the 100 breast at the 2019 ACC Championships where Duke finished fifth overall in the team standings.
