NEW COMMIT: Duke University has secured their sixth early verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Junior National qualifier Isabella Abrajan of Ladera Ranch, Calif.

She will join Kiki Kennedy, Madeline MeredithMartina PeroniKaelyn Gridley and Tatum Wall in as a member of the Blue Devils’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“It is with immense gratitude and fulfillment that I announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic careers at Duke University! I want to thank my teammates, teachers, and coach Mark Schubert for all their support. I especially want to thank my mom because without her resilience and sacrifices as a single parent, I would not be here.”

A versatile swimmer, Abrajan does her club swimming with the Mission Viejo Nadadores and last competed at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Richmond where she placed ninth in the 200m fly. She raced four events at the Toyota U.S. Open in November and notched a best time at Junior Nationals in August 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.83
  • 200 fly – 1:57.88
  • 50 back – 25.87
  • 100 back – 53.98
  • 200 back – 2:00.17
  • 200 IM – 2:00.72
  • 400 IM – 4:16.91

Currently a junior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Abrajan flew to ninth in the 100 fly at the CIF State Championships as a freshman. She also finished third in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 back at the CIF Southern DI Section meet in 2019.

Abrajan would’ve ranked third in the 100/200 fly and 400 IM as well as fourth in both the 100 back and 200 IM on Duke’s roster this past season. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 fly and 400 IM, as well as the C-final of the 100 fly, 100 back, and 200 IM, at the 2021 ACC Championships where the Blue Devils finished sixth.
