Drury Men, Colorado Mesa Women Top October Edition of CSCAA Division II Poll
The teams that finished second at last season’s NCAA Division II Championships are ranked No. 1 in the inaugural edition of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) polls for this season.
After finishing 64 points behind Tampa at last March’s national meet, the Drury men are in the top spot to start this year, although it’s a tight contest with Indianapolis and McKendree. This year’s Drury team is led by Davi Mourao, the defending national champion in the 100 breaststroke, plus two-time NCAA runnerup Joao Nogueira. Grand Valley and Tampa round out the top five, followed by Colorado-Mesa, Wingate, Nova Southeastern, Lewis and Northern Michigan.
For the women, it’s Colorado Mesa ahead of the field, followed by Grand Valley and reigning national champion Nova Southeastern. For Mesa, Agata Naskret returns after finishing as national champion in both backstroke events last season. Drury and Wingate are fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by West Florida, Tampa, Simon Fraser, Indianapolis and Northern Michigan.
The CSCAA rankings are voted upon by coaches in each division using data including head-to-head dual meet results, recent performances, full-season achievements and data from the SwimCloud Simulator.
