Dolfin Signs Swimming World Open Water Swimmer of the Year Andrew Gemmell
MOHNTON – Dolfin, Jade Swimwear, LP, is proud to announce the sponsorship signing of Olympic distance swimmer Andrew Gemmell to its roster of elite athletes.
In 2012, Andrew won the Men’s 1500m Freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Trials, en route to his Olympic debut at the London Games later that Summer. In the two years since London, Andrew has excelled in Open Water events, including: 1st Place in the 5K at the 2013 Open Water Nationals and 1st Place in the 10K at the 2014 Open Water Nationals, the latter of which earned him a spot on the 2014 Pan Pacs Team.
In May of this year, the dual-threat swimmer graduated from the University of Georgia, with a degree in Economics and a near 4.0 GPA.
The Newest Dolfin Elite Athlete!
In 2014, Andrew was named the Swimming World Male Open Water Swimmer of the Year.
Andrew also appeared on the Morning Swim Show to talk about the award, and his epic year.
When asked why he selected Dolfin as his first official post-collegiate sponsor, Andrew was as enthusiastic as he was analytical.
“I’m really excited to join Dolfin while working toward Rio,” Gemmell says. “Their leadership in Open Water really appealed to me and they’re developing some of the best new racing suits in the pool and for open water. As a brand, Dolfin certainly has an established history in the sport of swimming, but I also like the fact that they aren’t simply resting on their heritage; they are actively working to expand the technological evolution of the sport and they’re including my voice and feedback in that process. ”
“The Dolfin brand is considered the toughest in the water, and what better athlete to put that to the test than someone like Andrew.” said Matt Zimmer, Director of Brand Development. “Andrew’s goals are impressive, and he wanted a strong family atmosphere to support that. He fits right in with our culture, and sharing the same vision made Andrew a perfect fit for us.”
Dolfin’s Director of Technical Development, Mark Schubert adds, “Andrew has proven himself to be one of the World’s outstanding distance swimmers. We look forward to his future accomplishments and his contributions to our company. We are proud to have him as a member of the Dolfin family.”
Andrew trains with Nation’s Capital Swim Club, in Washington, DC, under the direction of his father, Bruce Gemmell, a two-time ASCA Coach of the Year. In a follow up to his Olympic debut at London 2012, the reigning Pan Pac Open Water gold medalist is shifting his focus with the goal of making the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team in the Open Water 10K. The rare “pool/open water double” would place Andrew in a rare class of Olympic athletes, while further underscoring the critical intersection between top-notch training and top-tier technological innovation.
Through rigorous testing and refinement, Dolfin Swimwear has been producing the best suits in America for over 70 years.
