Distance Freestyler Maggie Graves Lends 2021 Verbal to Notre Dame
NEW COMMIT: Distance freestyler Maggie Graves of Barrington, Ill. has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame and will suit up for the Fighting Irish in the fall of 2021.
Graves swims year-round with Barrington Swim Club and owns the Summer Juniors standard in three events. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed 22nd in the 1500m free at Junior Nationals after winning that event at Illinois LCM Seniors this past summer. Last winter, she finished fifth in the 800m/1500m free combo at Southern Zones and recorded three best times at the Speedo Premier meet. A current junior at Barrington High School, Graves earned bronze in the 500 free at the Illinois State Championships during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am very happy to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame. I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me through this process. GO IRISH!!!”
Her best times include:
- 500 free – 4:51.72
- 1000 free – 9:55.75
- 1650 free – 16:42.21
When she arrives on campus as a member of class of 2025, she’ll have one year of overlap with Madeline LaPorte in Notre Dame’s distance group. Even with nearly two years of club swimming still to go, she would’ve placed in the top-20 in the mile at the 2019 ACC Championships and is just outside scoring range in the 500 free.
