Distance Ace Lexie Ward Pledges 2025 Verbal To North Carolina
NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has started its Class of 2025 recruiting with a verbal commitment from U.S. Open qualifier Lexie Ward of Carmel, Indiana.
She told Swimming World:
“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! I am so grateful for God, my family, teammates, and coaches for all of their support along the way! GO HEELS!”
Ward, who trains year-round with Carmel Swim Club, last competed at Junior Nationals where she finished 10th in the 800m free, 14th in the 400m free and 17th in the 1500m free. Back in December, she raced to fifth place in the mile at Juniors East.
Her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:47.61
- 500 free – 4:46.36
- 1000 free – 10:01.04
- 1650 free – 16:33.95
- 400 IM – 4:18.93
Currently a junior at Carmel High School, Ward earned silver in the 500 free and bronze in the 200 free at the 2023 Indiana State Championship en route to helping the Greyhounds win their 37th straight team title. She placed third and seventh, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.
Ward will be a great addition to the Tar Heels’ roster, as her top times in the 500 free and mile would’ve been the fastest on the team a season ago.
