Diana Munz Injured In Auto Accident
Diana Munz, who graced the cover of the April issue of Swimming World, was injured in a serious auto accident last Sunday. She suffered a compressed fracture of the third vertebra in her back and will be wearing a body brace for several weeks, before getting back in the water in an estimated three months. As a result of the accident, Munz, who won the 800m and 1500m freestyles at the last three USA Swimming National Championships, has been forced to withdraw from next month’s Pan Pacific Championships in Sydney.
According to Lake Erie Silver Dolphins coach Jerry Holtrey, the prognosis is good for a complete recovery.
Tom Dolan, the world record-holder and Olympic champion in the 400m I.M., has also been forced to withdraw from the Pan Pacs. Dolan underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on May 20.
