Denis Petrashov, Tommy Bried Lead Louisville Domination of Purdue

Denis Petrashov and Tommy Bried won two events each as Louisville dominated a cross-conference clash against Purdue, 194-105, Friday.

Petrashov pulled off the breaststroke double, winning the 100 in 52.76 and the 200 in 1:54.85. The Kyrgyz Olympian also was part of the winning 200 medley relay squad.

Third in the 200 breast was Bried, with his unusually broad area of specialty. Bried went 3:44.36 to beat teammate Gregg Enoch by more than four seconds in the 400 individual medley. He also won the 200 fly in 1:44.06.

The Cardinals got an early 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 free, led by Murilo Sartori (1:34.73) and Enoch. Charlie Crush’s time of 19.78 led the way in the 50 free. Enoch won the 500 free in 4:20.32 over 1,000 free winner Elijah Shoyat. Aidan Paro (100 fly) and Jackson Millard (200 back) chipped in wins in the back half of the meet.

Purdue’s bright spot was in diving. Jordan Rzepka was outstanding, particularly on his 3-meter specialty. He scored 412.95 points to destroy the Ralph Wright Natatorium record held since 2011 by Ryan Helms at 399.25. Rzepka also scored 369.00 to win 1-meter, with teammate Maxwell Miller second in both.

In the pool, Brady Samuels supplied the Boilermakers’ only two victories. He went 46.83 in the 100 back to edge Millard by .13 seconds. Samuels also went 42.59 to win the 100 free ahead of Guy Brooks.
