Women’s 200 IM Finals (Multiclass)

Tiffany Thomas Kane was the top qualifier out of the morning heats, and won the event tonight in 3:08.98 for 879 points. Katherine Downie was a second ranked 2:34.84 and Madeline Scott finished third in 2:38.68.

Lakeisha Patterson (2:49.24), Paige Leonhardt (2:39.11), Taylor Corry (2:35.42), Kayla Clarke (2:36.27), and Kate Wilson (3:22.92) rounded out the top 8.

Matthew Levy won the event with a 2:36.67, good for 934 points. Jesse Aungles finished second with a 2:28.68. Third went to Timothy Disken in 2:21.54.

Men’s 50 Freestyle Semi-Final

Cameron McEvoy emerges from the Semi-Final as the top seed with a 22.12, still a tenth over Australia’s own Olympic Qualifying time. Matthew Abood is second seed for finals in 22.24. James Magnussen posted a 22.34 for third.

William Stockwell (22.36), James Roberts (22.39), David Morgan (22.45), Andrew Abood (22.47), and Kenneth To (22.51) also move onto finals.

Women’s 200 Breaststroke Finals

Taylor Mckeown vaulted to third in the world with a 2:21.45, also well under the Australian qualifying time of 2:23.06. Georgia Bohl finished second in 2:23.95, though shy of the Australian time. Tessa Wallace was third in 2:24.37.

Sally Hunter (2:25.01), Jessice Hansen (2:26.15), Jenna Strauch (2:28.78), Sarah Beale (2:31.25), and Lorna Tonks (2:33.95) completed the final heat.

Men’s 200 Backstroke Finals

Mitch Larkin dominated the 200 backstroke in 1:53.90. That time improved Larkin’s own world leading 1:54.68 from Semi-Finals. Joshua Beaver stopped the clock at 1:56.19, also under Australia’s Olympic qualifying time. Matson Lawson was third in 1:59.37, the only other swimmer under two minutes.

Emily Seebohm posted the top time of 2:08.10, well under Australia’s own Olympic qualifying time of 2:09.16. She was joined under the cut by the second through fourth place finishers. Belinda Hocking was second in 2:08.55. Madison Wilson, who owns the current world leading time of 2:07.18, and finished third tonight in 2:08.91. Minna Atherton was fourth with a 2:09.10.

Daniel Tranter was first to the wall in 1:58.72, but came up just short of Australia’s 1:58.54 Olympic qualifying time. Justin James finished second in 1:59.12, the only other swimmer under two minutes. Travis Mahoney swam a 2:00.53 to round out the top three.

Women’s 100 Free Finals

The Campbell sisters put up a 1-2 finish to both head to Rio in the 100 freestyle. Cate led the way, posting a 52.38, knocking three hundredths off her own world leading time.

Bronte was just two tenths behind in 52.58, knocking two tenths off her own time, and into position as the sole holder of the second fastest time in the world this year.

Emma McKeon was third in 52.80. That is the world’s fourth ranked time, but will not get an individual berth in Rio. Fourth place Britta Elmslie also cleared Australia’s Olympic cut with a 53.54.
