David Plummer Maintains First Seed in Loaded 100 Backstroke

The men’s 100 backstroke is expected to be one of the most competitive events of the meet and prelims gave a strong indication of that.

Earlier this month David Plummer posted the fastest time in the world this year with a 52.40. Today he touched in 53.22 for the top seed.

Jacob Pebley put together the world’s 17th best time earlier this month. He moved up to 15th this morning with a 53.48.

Seventeen year old Michael Taylor of Dynamo posted a 53.77, nearly a second drop from his 54.62.

Ryan Murphy arrived in Omaha with the world’s third best time of 52.57. This morning he swam over a second slower in 53.84.

Matt Grevers was seeded in a world’s 12th best 53.35. Swimming in his fifth Olympic Trials the 2012 Olympic gold medalist looked very in control as he posted a 53.98, for the fifth seed.

Sean Lehane touched in 54.49 and Jake Taylor swam a 54.50 for seventh.

Eugene Godsoe grabbed the eighth seed in 54.74. John Shebat (54.91), Patrick Mulcare (54.94) and Taylor Dale (54.95) finished ninth through 11th. Justin Ress and Ryan Harty tied for 12th in 55.00. Hennessey Stuart (55.40) was the last swimmer to secure his semifinal swim.

Austin Katz, Cameron Craig, and Carter Griffin all tied for 15th in 55.41, leaving us with a three way swim-off for the final two spots in the semifinals.
