David Johnston Reviews Hectic Olympic Summer on Social Kick Podcast
Over the past several years, David Johnston has established himself as one of the United States’ premier distance freestylers. Whether representing the University of Texas on the college stage or wearing a Team USA cap in international competition, Johnston has been a consistent presence in the 800-meter freestyle and 1500 freestyle.
During the summer, Johnston represented the United States at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he finished 18th in the 1500 freestyle. That performance was affected significantly by illness, as Johnston had the misfortune of testing positive for COVID ahead of his debut on the biggest stage in his sport.
Before securing a bid to the Olympics in the 1500 freestyle, Johnston placed third in the 400 freestyle and fourth in the 800 freestyle at the U.S. Trials.
Johnston is now looking ahead to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and is back in training at Texas. The distance ace recently joined the Social Kick Podcast to discuss his summer, which included drama at the United States Olympic Trials to simply nail down his bid to the Paris Games.
