David Betlehem And Jeanette Spiwoks Enjoy Dominant Wins At LEN Open Water Cup
David Betlehem and Jeanette Spiwoks claimed comprehensive wins by more than 2mins 30secs in their respective men’s and women’s races at the final leg of the LEN Open Water Cup in Barcelona.
The Hungarian won the men’s race by 2:37 in 1:41:11.50 with Spiwoks, of Germany, leading home the women’s field in 1:51:37.50 with a 2:34 winning margin.
Betlehem claimed double gold in the 10km and relay at the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships last week in the Seychelles.
In the absence of Marc-Antoine Olivier, the 19-year-old left the pack behind right away and his tactic worked perfectly with Germany’s world and European bronze medallist Rob Muffels clear in second, finishing in 1:43:38.90.
A great battle ensued for the bronze with Spain’s Guillem Pujol who out-touched Czech Martin Straka by 0.45sec in 1:44:18.35.
Spiwoks was similarly dominant as she claimed back-to-back wins following victory at the previous leg in Kiel.
Angela Martinez (1:54:11.55) and Candela Sanchez (1:54:14.05) made it a Spain two-three.
