Danielle Hill & Shane Ryan Post Irish Standards In Prelims Of Olympic Trials
Danielle Hill and Shane Ryan set Irish records in the 50 and 100 free respectively on the penultimate morning of Swim Ireland’s Irish Open Championships and Olympic Trials.
Larne swimmer Hill stopped the clock at 24.95, dipping under the 25-second mark for the first time to slice 0.20 from her previous best 0f 25.15 from 2022.
It was also a championship mark for the 24-year-old who’ll look to get inside the 24.70 Olympic cut in Saturday evening’s final having already punched her ticket in the 100 back.
Ryan went 48.55 in the 100 free to cut 0.13 from his Irish record of 48.68 which had stood for six years, a time that also lowered his championship mark.
The National Centre (Dublin) swimmer secured top seed for the A Final in a European Championships Consideration Time and now has his sights set on the OQT of 48.34.
In the same event, Evan Bailey set his fourth Irish junior record of the week in 49.90.
Nathan Wiffen was fastest out of the 1500 freestyle heat in a time of 16:35.80 and heads into Sunday’s final with his sights set on the Olympic Qualification Time (OQT) of 15:00.99.
