Daniel Wiffen Completes Freestyle Treble With 3:49 400 At BUCS Meet In Sheffield
Daniel Wiffen wrapped up the freestyle treble with victory over 400m on the final day of the BUCS Long Course Championships in Sheffield.
The double world champion came home in 3:49.66 ahead of Felix Auboeck (3:52.44) to complete a successful campaign at Ponds Forge that included the third-swiftest 800 of his career in 7:43.03 and a 1:42 1500.
Freya Colbert, like Wiffen representing Loughborough days after reaching the top of the podium at Doha 2024, won the women’s 400 in 4:13.34 to add to her 200 free and 4IM golds.
Kornelia Fiedkiewicz added the 50 free to her 100 in 24.74, the only woman inside 26secs, Keanna Macinnes completed the butterfly triple with a 2:09.91 200, Lauren Cox won the women’s 50 back in 28.12 and Kara Hanlon clinched the 200m breaststroke (2:26.44).
University of Stirling won the women’s medley relay in 4:01.64 ahead of Loughborough who featured Fiedkiewicz on anchor, splitting 53.83 as the quartet came home in 4:02.59.
David Cumberlidge won the 50 free in 22.49; Josh Gammon took the men’s 200 fly (2:00.27), Conor Ferguson edged out Oli Morgan by 0.01 to win the 50 back in 24.72 to 24.73 and Greg Butler won the men’s 200 breaststroke (2:10.95).
Loughborough won the open medley relay in 3:37.51.
