The final day of competition wrapped up at the 2016 Australia State Teams Short Course Championships with Daniel Cave of Victoria posting a new meet record in the boys 16-17 100-meter breaststroke. Cave posted a final time of 1:00.05 for the win and the record. Additionally, the seventeen-year-old claimed victory in the 50-meter breaststroke with a new meet record of 27.18.
New South Wales’ Se-Bom Lee overturned the existing meet record in the boys 14-15 400-meter IM, touching in a final time of 4:23.89.
Caitlin Walsh of New South Wales flirted with a new meet record in the girls 13-14 version of the event, claiming the win with a time of 1:10.43. The current record sits at a 1:10.40 set in 2011 by Karlene Pircher.
Queensland’s Lydia Murray flew ahead of the competition in the girls 13-14 200-meter fly stopping the clock at a 2:14.04 for the win.
Finn O’Connor of New South Wales completed his sweep of the boys 14-15 breaststroke events with a narrow win in the 50-meter breaststroke. O’Connor out-touched Sebastian Leavy of Queensland a slim 29.88 to 29.89.
New Zealand collected two wins during the final session of swimming in the girls 50-meter breaststroke events and one in the 100-meter breaststroke. Kayla Jackson delivered a 32.08 to finish first in the 15-16 age group, while Brear Crawford turned in a 32.06 to top the 13-14 age group. Ciara Smith topped the girls 15-16 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:10.46.
Zachary Dell ended the day on a high note for New Zealand with a final victory in the boys 14-15 200-meter back, winning with a 2:00.28.
Nick Jennens added to New South Wales’ win column with a victory in the boys 14-15 200-meter free (1:51.55) and the boys 16-17 200-meter free with a 1:47.87 from Zachary Attard.
Queensland ended the meet with victories from Charli Mitchell in the girls 15-16 200-meter fly (2:!3.45), Lani Palmister in the girls 13-14 200-meter free (2:00.64), and Toby Wilson in the boys 16-17 1500-meter free (15:28.91).
David Schlicht earned another win for Victoria with a 4:15.56 finish in the boys 16-17 400-meter IM.
South Australia’s only win of the session was posted by sixteen-year-old Emily Liu in the girls 15-16 200-meter free (1:58.56).
