CSCAA Division I Poll: Cal Men, Stanford Women Lead Pre-Season Poll
CSCAA Division I poll
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released the first TYR Top 25 Dual Meet Swimming and Diving Poll of the 2019-2020 season. Unique to the other polls, the CSCAA Division I poll includes both teams that have competed and those still waiting to race in their first meet of the year.
The Stanford women and California men, both defending national champions, sit atop the preseason poll this year. While the teams under Coach Greg Meehan (Stanford) and Coach Dave Durden (Cal) can enjoy the top spot, there is little doubt that they will be challenged as the season unfolds. The margin between the number one and three spot is small in both the women and the men’s polls, just 22 and 24 points, respectively.
On the women’s side, Virginia, California, NC State, and Texas round out the top five spots. On the men’s side Texas, NC State, Virginia and The Ohio State University complete the top five. In total, 31 women’s and 33 men’s teams earned votes. In future polls, the teams will be evaluated on their meet results from the current year as the poll aims to measure the top teams in head-to-head competition.
The rankings are voted on by CSCAA-member coaches. Each committee includes 9 spots from the Power Five leagues and five at-large spots from non-P5 leagues. The women and men committee chairs are Naya Higashijima (SMU) and Bill Roberts (Navy). The next poll is scheduled for release on October 23rd.
