The 2019 FINA World Junior Championships are right around the corner and several representatives of Team USA’s junior team were swimming their best at the 2019 Phillips 66 US National Championships.
USA World Junior coaches Crystal Keelen (Penn Charter Aquatic Club) and Billy Doughty (DART Swimming) ended the meet very pleased with how the younger athletes performed on the Nationals stage. When asked if they were at all shocked by some of the recent performances, the two seemed on the fence. Some of the swims are surprising, while some aren’t because some kids are on the spectrum to make the national team.
When asked what it means to be chosen to represent Team USA as a head coach,
“It’s incredible. You get the phone call and you’re always kind of surprised and just like the kids you’re kind of excited to have that opportuinty to take all these kids that have worked so hard and now they get to represent their country and we get to support them,” said Keelen.
“We all as athletes strive to be at this level. But now as a coach to be able to go and represent your country and lead Team USA into any sort of competition is an amazing honor,” added Doughty.
