Emory senior Oliver Smith broke the NCAA Record in the heats this morning with a 42.98, but he had to hold on for dear life on the last 25 tonight as he got serious pressure from Tufts sophomore Roger Gu. Smith held on barely with a 43.32 as Gu was second at 43.44.
Smith now has the NCAA record in the 50 and the 100 free as he broke the record that was held by Kenyon legend Zach Turk from 2012.
Loras senior Ike Casey (44.08), Emory’s Trey Kolleck (44.11), Buffalo State’s Connor Mergler (44.11), MIT’s Josh Tomazin (44.30), Saint Vincent’s Jacob Davis (44.38) and Denison’s Zack Wagner (45.26) also swam in the championship final.
