Cornell Big Red Nabs Two Verbal Commitments from Dominic Edwards, Taylan Ercan
NEW COMMITS: Cornell University has picked up a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Istanbul, Turkey native Taylan Ercan and Dominic Edwards of Newtown, Pa.
DOMINIC EDWARDS
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic careers in the Ivy League at Cornell University! I’d like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teachers for pushing me to get to this point. Go Big Red!?⚪️ #LGR”
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:41.17
- 100 breast – 59.51
- 200 breast – 2:07.01
- 200 IM – 1:50.93
Edwards does his club swimming with Hamilton Area YMCA and finaled in the 200 free at YMCA Nationals in April 2019. Also competing for Council Rock North High School, Edwards is a four-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. He placed fourth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 500 free as a junior while taking eighth and ninth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
TAYLAN ERCAN
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“As a Robert College 11 th grade student, I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Cornell University. I am so grateful for my family, coaches, teachers for being my biggest supporters that have helped me to make this possible. I can’t wait to begin the next chapter of my life! GO BİG RED??”
His best times include:
- 100m back – 57.65
- 200m back – 2:05.89
- 200m IM – 2:08.48
- 400m IM – 4:38.52
Ercan swims year-round with Galatasaray S.K. and placed fifth in the 200m back and sixth in the 200m IM at the Turkish National Team Selection Meet in December. He was a four-time finalist at Turkish Junior Nationals in 2019 and earned bronze in the 200m back at the Bulgarian Open last summer.
