Connecticut Secures Verbal from Crimson Aquatics’ Caitlin Spencer
NEW COMMIT: Uxbridge, Mass. native Caitlin Spencer has given her verbal to the University of Connecticut and will join the Huskies next fall.
A backstroke and butterfly specialist, Spencer swims year-round with Crimson Aquatics and has her Junior National cuts in the 200 back and 100 fly. She made a pair of finals appearances at Richmond Futures over the summer and competed in four events at Juniors East last winter. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also won the 200 fly and earned the bronze in the 200 back at the New England Senior Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“I chose UConn because of the amazing coaching staff and their vision for the team. When meeting the team, I knew I was surrounded by people willing to work hard and push me to me achieve my goals. I loved the campus and the academic opportunities that were presented to me. I am confident that UConn will provide me with the best experiences as a student-athlete.”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 56.60
- 200 back – 2:00.67
- 100 fly – 55.85
- 200 fly – 2:03.17
Spencer will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Huskies as a member of the class of 2023: she would’ve scored in the 200 back A-final and the B-final of the 100 back and both fly events at the 2018 American Conference Championships.
