Evergreen, Colorado’s Kara Coughlin has announced her verbal commitment to Florida State University. Coughlin, who swims for Jeffco Hurricanes, is primarily a backstroker.
Coughlin’s best times:
- 100/200 Backstroke: 56.28/2:00.18
- 400 IM: 4:27.51
- 200 Fly: 2:05.41
The garnet and gold welcomed Neal Studd as the new Head Coach this fall. Studd will look to turn around a program that finished ninth at last season’s ACC Championships. Coughlin’s best scoring opportunity will come in the 200 backstroke, where this year her best time would have finished 28th. Megan Brown was the Seminoles’ top finisher last year (1:56.65). She will be a junior when Coughlin starts in Tallahassee next fall.
Joining her in the Class of 2021 is Hailey Ladd who congratulated her soon-to-be teammate on the commitment. The two should also be a good match for training. Ladd is a very similar backstroker, with bests of 57.39 and 2:00.61. The Virginia native also a strong distance freestyler.
So excited to take on the best 4 years with you as my teammate! Can't wait to make some more memories!! GO NOLES!
