Colorado State University Pueblo Announces 2016-2017 Signing Class

PUEBLO, Colo. (August 9, 2016) – Head Coach Brian Pearson and Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving announced the signing of six incoming athletes that will join the Pack for the 2016-17 season. Torah Fisher (Estes Park, Colo.), Kaitlin Hoffman (Aurora, Colo.), Kelsey Johnson (Mount Vernon, Wash.), Phoebe Pontius (Caledonia, Mich.), Angie Randall (Fairbanks, Alaska), and diver Kortney Spencer (Pueblo, Colo.) have all signed their national letters of intent and will begin competing for the Pack this fall.

“This class is a much-needed boost to our sprint core which will strengthen our relay scoring opportunities in the RMAC,” Pearson said.

Fisher lettered in swimming during each of her four seasons at Estes Park High School. She captained the Bobcats during her senior season. Fisher qualified for state as an individual in each of her four high school campaigns, most recently swimming the 100 breaststroke at the Colorado 4A State Meet. She earned Tri-Valley Conference honors with a fourth place finish in the 100 breast.

“Torah is a diamond in the rough sprinter will help with relay depth and breaststroke,” Pearson said.

Hoffman swam the 100 butterfly and 200 free at Smoky Hill High School. Her best time in the 100 fly stands at 1:02.67. She recorded a personal best time of 2:02.67 in the 200 free.

“Hoffman has an athletic pedigree,” Pearson said. “Her father is a football coach and she will excel in sprints and butterfly.”

Johnson served as the captain of Sedro-Woolley High School as both a junior and a senior. She has qualified for the Washington State Meet in the butterfly, freestyle, and relay events in each of her four years of high school. As a senior, Johnson finished ninth in the butterfly at the state meet. She also earned four WIAA State Academic Achievement Awards.

“Kelsey will add a punch to the sprint and butterfly corps,” Pearson said.

Pontius comes to the Pack after earning All-State honors as a senior. She collected two All-Ok Green Conference honors. Swimming for a co-op with Byron Center High School, Pontius helped the Bulldogs set school records in both the medley relay and 200 free relay.

“Phoebe is a highly touted sprinter/mid distance freestyler from Caledonia Michigan,” Pearson said. “I look forward to her scoring in the top 16 at RMAC championships.”

Randall swam for West Valley High School. The freestyle specialist won a region championship in the 200 and 500 for the Wolfpack. Randall placed second at the Alaska State Meet in the 500 free. She also finished fourth in the 200 and helped the Wolfpack’s 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams to third place.

“Angie will be a force to be reckoned within the RMAC in the sprint and middle distance freestyle,” Pearson said.

Spencer finished second at the 2016 Girls South Central League Championships with a score of 354.00. She would go on to participate at Colorado 4A State Meet.

“Kortney has one meter experience and dives for my former age group coach Cecil Townsend,” Pearson said. “She will gain valuable experience this season.

These six student-athletes will join a Pack team that won its first three duals in program history in 2015-16. The Pack will lose only one swimmer to graduation.
