Colorado 5A State Runner-Up Sawyer Inglis Lends Verbal to Southern Methodist

NEW COMMIT: Southern Methodist University has received their second verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Sawyer Inglis of Denver, Colo., who will arrive in Dallas as a member of the class of 2025.

He will join Angus Corbeau as a member of the Mustangs in the fall of 2021.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic careers at SMU as a part of the class of 2025. I would like to thank my family, my friends and my coaches Who have helped me through this process. #ponyup”

Primarily a freestyler, Inglis does his club swimming with the University of Denver Hilltoppers and is a Futures qualifier. He most recently won the 500 free and was the runner-up in the 200 free/200 back at the Pioneer Open and finaled in the 500 free at Federal Way Sectionals in 2019. Last summer, he registered four best times at Mount Hood Sectionals.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.97
  • 100 free – 47.47
  • 200 free – 1:40.52
  • 500 free – 4:35.05
  • 200 back – 1:51.41
  • 400 IM – 4:06.70

Also competing for Regis Jesuit High School, Inglis is a three-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. He grabbed silver in the 200 free and placed sixth in the 500 free as a sophomore while taking 14th in the 200 IM during his rookie season.

Inglis will add valuable freestyle depth and will join a training group led by Wyatt Cronk Kolos Nagy, and Colin Feehery. Under head coach Greg Rhodenbaugh, the Mustangs finished third overall in the team standings at the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championships.
