NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has cracked open their Class of 2026 recruiting after receiving a verbal commitment from Fort Collins, Colo. native Renee Gillilan.

She will arrive on campus in the fall of 2022 and will have one year off overlap with her older sister, Coleen Gillilan.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to Notre Dame. I am grateful for my family, friends, coaches, and teammates that have supported me. I cannot wait to attend a school that will help me thrive academically and athletically. Go Irish!”

A talented butterflyer and backstroker, Gillilan swims year-round with Fort Collins Area Swim Team and is a Summer Nationals qualifier. She placed eighth in the 100 fly and 17th in the 200 fly at Juniors West in December and took sixth and 11th in those events at that meet in 2018.

Last summer, she won the 100m fly at Colorado LCM Seniors before going on to notch two best times at Phillips 66 Nationals. Gillilan also finaled in the 100m fly at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 52.95
  • 50 back – 25.48
  • 100 back – 53.76
  • 200 fly – 1:59.30
  • 200 IM – 2:00.57

A current junior at Fossil Ridge High School, Gillilan is already a four-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back and the 100 fly as a sophomore while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during her freshman season. She has also been a part of two winning relays at the state meet.

Even with two years to go before suiting up for the Fighting Irish at the start of the 2022-23 season, Gillilan will make a big impact just like her older sister has. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 100 back at the 2020 ACC Championships where Notre Dame
