Colby Maupin Will Become A Wildcat With Verbal Commitment to Kentucky
NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has added a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Futures qualifier Colby Maupin of Knoxville, Tenn.
He will join Jack Hamilton, Michael Belair, Mac Russell, and Jackson Mussler in Lexington as a member of the Wildcats’ class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of Kentucky. Thank you to all my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me during my journey. #GoCats”
Maupin does his club swimming with Prime Aquatics and was the 200 back runner-up at the Speedo Music City Invitational in December where he achieved seven lifetime bests. He also raced five events at NCSAs in March 2019.
In summer 2019, he picked up five top-24 finishes at the Southeastern LCM Championships before going on to notch three best times at Greensboro Futures.
His best times include:
- 200 Back – 1:51.32
- 100 Back – 50.14
- 100 Fly – 50.02
- 200 Free – 1:43.03
Also competing for Bearden High School, Maupin is a five-time individual TISCA State Championship finalist. He placed third in the 100 back and fourth in the 100 fly as a junior while taking eighth and 15th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
The Wildcats finished seventh overall in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships under head coach Lars Jorgensen. They also qualified five swimmers for the NCAA Championships – their most in a decade.
