Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, Day Three

ATHENS, Georgia, February 18. THE College of Charleston men won the 2012 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Cougars picked up a total of 890.50 points, earning their third CCSA Championship title.
Davidson College finished in second with 884 points in front of Gardner-Webb who totaled 717.50 points. VMI took fourth with 338.50 points, while Howard earned 235 points to round out the list.

Drew Onken of Davidson earned the Men’s Swimmer of the Year for the second-straight year and took home the Men’s Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet. The junior earned three CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors this past season while holding the season’s top spots on the top 16 list in the 100-yard freestyle (46.24), 200-yard backstroke (1:50.96), 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.23), 200 IM (1:51.03) and 400 IM (3:53.35). In the meet, Onken won first in the 200 IM and earning a B cut with a time of 1:46.69 as well as first in the 400 IM and earning a B cut with a time of 3:47.38 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.65.

Peter Gibbons of College of Charleston garnered Men’s Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet and Men’s Diver of the Year for the second straight year. The junior took first in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive with a score of 278.80 and 291.75, respectively. During the season, Gibbons earned two CCSA Men’s Diver of the Week honors

Dylan Ludwick of Davidson was tabbed the Most Outstanding Freshman Performer, placing first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:25.34 and the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:40.50. Both his 500 free time and 1,650 free time set new meet and conference records.

Thirteenth-year head coach Bruce Zimmerman of College of Charleston won Male Swimming Coach of theYear, while Brittany Collins took home Male Diving Coach of the Year.

The Florida Gulf Coast women won the 2012 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Eagles picked up a total of 840 points,l eading them to their fourth-straight CCSA Championship.

Liberty followed with 538.50 points, while Georgia Southern took third with a score of 477.50. Gardner-Webb placed fourth with 365 points and in fifth with 348 points was University of North Florida. Davidson College took sixth-place with 340 points, while College of Charleston followed in seventh with267 points and Campbell in eighth with 181 points. Rounding out the field was Radford with 140 points, Howard with 92 points, VMI with 68 points and North Carolina A&T with 56 points.

Liberty’s Brye Ravettine took home Female Swimmer of the Year and Women’s Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet. The sophomore holds top-three times in the CCSA top 16 times in four events including second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.24), 100-yard freestyle (57.58) and 50-yard backstroke (27.27). He is also third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.12. At the CCSA Championships, Ravettine took first and earned B cuts in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.19, 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.59 and 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.33.

Sophomore Sara Meisenhelder of GeorgiaSouthern garnered Female Diver of the Year, as she is currently ranked fourth-place in CCSA top 16 times in both the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive with scores of 263.25 and 265.35, respectively.

Florida Gulf Coast’s Maegan Butler was honored as Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet, placing first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive with scores of 258.70 and 302.00, respectively.

Emma Svensson of Florida Gulf Coast took home Most Outstanding Female Freshman Performer of the Meet, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle and earning a “B” cut with a time of 22.19 as well as placing second in the 100-yard backstroke and earning a “B” cut with a time of 54.59. She also earned a “B” cut in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.33.

Liberty head coach Jake Shellenberger garnered Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year and for the first time and Andrew Goe of Florida Gulf Coast took home Women’s Diving Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
