NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has been handed a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Cleves, Ohio native and current high school junior Nate Buse.

Buse, who owns a pair of Winter Junior standards, does his club swimming with Cincinnati Marlins and most recently earned bronze in the 50m fly with three additional top-5 finishes at ISCA TYR Junior Nationals. He raced two events at Junior Nationals in December and placed 11th in the 50m back at Spire Speedo Sectionals this past summer.

Also competing for Saint Xavier High School, Buse has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors and is a four-time Ohio State Championship finalist. He finished sixth in the 100 fly and eighth in the 100 back as a junior after taking 16th and 12th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky to continue my academic and swimming career. Thank you to all my coaches, teammates, family, friends, Brad Isham and the Cincinnati Marlins for supporting me and allowing me to have this opportunity. Looking forward to a great next 4 years. Go Wildcats!”

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.31
  • 100 back – 50.42
  • 50 fly – 22.21
  • 100 fly – 49.64

Buse will be a valuable asset to Kentucky’s sprint back and fly groups when he arrives in Lexington as a member of the class of 2024. He has made significant improvements over the past three seasons, dropping 15 seconds in his 100 back and nine seconds in his 100 fly.
