CIF Bronze Medalist Sammie Hamilton Selects Kentucky

NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has picked up a new verbal commitment for Fall 2024 from Junior National qualifier Samantha “Sammie” Hamilton of Long Beach, California.

She’s the first public verbal pledge under new head coach Bret Lundgaard, who enters his first season at the helm of the Wildcats’ program.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m SO excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Kentucky! Grateful for my coaches, friends, and family who helped me get to where I am today. Go CATS!”
A talented freestyler, Hamilton does her club swimming with Irvine Novaquatics and placed ninth in the 400m free and 10th in the 200m free at Sacramento Futures this past summer after two top-12 finishes at Fullerton Futures. She also competed at Juniors West last winter and took fourth in the 200/500 free at LaMirada Sectionals.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:50.41
  • 500 free – 4:51.56
  • 1000 free – 10:05.45
  • 1650 free – 16:57.47

Currently a senior at Woodrow Wilson High School, Hamilton earned bronze in the 500 free at the CIF State Championship in 2023 after taking fourth at the CIF Southern Section Championship.

Her third-place finish came one year after she finished 33rd in that event at the state meet as a freshman, with a time that was 14 seconds faster.
