Chinese National Championships Day 6: Zhang Yufei Wins 200 Butterfly to Lead Trio of Olympic Qualifiers
Day 6 of the Chinese National Championships saw three more swimmers qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Zhang Yufei and Chen Luying qualified in the women’s 200-meter butterfly, while Ye Shiwen qualified in the women’s 200 breaststroke.
In the women’s 200 butterfly final, Zhang Yufei qualified for Paris with a gold-medal swim of 2:06.40. Chen Luying took the silver in 2:06.81 to also qualify for the Olympics. Gong Zhenqi took the bronze in 2:07.28.
The women’s 200 breaststroke only had one qualifier make the Olympic automatic cut. Ye Shiwen earned gold in 2:22.55 to qualify for Paris. Tang Qianting took the silver in 2:25.27 and Zhu Leiju earned the bronze in 2:26.19.
The final of the men’s 200 backstroke saw nobody make the Olympic A cut. Xu Jiayu took the gold in 1:57.70, followed by Wang Yutian (1:58.29) with the silver and Tao Guannan (1:58.53) with the bronze.
In the men’s 200 IM semifinal, Wang Shun earned the top seed for finals with a swim of 1:57.24, well ahead of the field. Zhang Zhanshuo was second in 2:00.64, followed by He Yubo (2:01.58).
The women’s 200 backstroke semifinal saw Peng Xuwei take the top seed in 2:09.24, followed by Sun Mingxia (2:11.61) and Zhang Jingyan (2:12.01).
The men’s 50 free semifinals saw Pan Zhanle take the top seed in 21.99, followed by Yu Hexin (22.18) and Wang Haoyu (22.46).
